Lecture description

Forestry is becoming scalable: from microclimate monitoring to individual tree harvesting, new technologies are increasingly focusing on ecological and demand-driven solutions to make today's challenges economically viable. The research of the Autonomous Mobile Robotics Lab (AMRL) at HAWK Göttingen sits at exactly this intersection: partially automating labour- and time-intensive operations while advancing the digital mapping of forests. To this end, Prof. Dr. Thomas Linkugel presents the Scorpion: a terrain-capable system with minimal soil compaction, designed for multi-sensor mapping, autonomous navigation and the automated clearing of competing vegetation around young plants.
