Lecture description
Over the last decade, interest in fabricating ceramic parts through advanced means has grown drastically. Utilizing additive manufacturing can open the possibility to create unique shapes, properties, and features otherwise not possible through traditional methods. In the additive world, there are several technologies available that have their own benefits and drawbacks. Of these technologies, Binder Jetting allows for the most flexibility in material selection as well as no difficulty in scaling with both small-scale research platforms and large production platforms for larger size parts quantities of parts. The biggest limitation for Binder Jetting is the lack of higher solids loadings of very fine particles that assist in post-processing and densification. This talk will go over some of the more commonly sought-after ceramic systems, how those have matured in Binder Jetting, the challenges that still need to be overcome, and an outlook as to which supporting technologies can be used to advance Binder Jetting of technical ceramics to the next level.
