The COVID-19 crisis served as a stark reminder of how fragile and opaque global supply chains can be—especially in sea freight. What once operated smoothly and unnoticed quickly became a source of production stoppages, sales losses, and customer dissatisfaction. With limited insight into where goods were or when they would arrive, businesses were left making costly decisions in the dark. To tackle this, BSH partnered with Shippeo and SAP to bring real-time visibility to their international logistics. By integrating Shippeo’s platform into BSH's existing SAP systems, they now receive standardized, accurate ETA data for both raw materials and finished goods. This eliminates the need for multiple direct connections with individual carriers and streamlines our logistics through a single, unified interface.
The benefits are clear. BSH's teams can plan production with confidence, communicate proactively with customers during supply disruptions, and reduce internal coordination efforts. They’re also able to monitor container costs like demurrage and optimize inbound flows to our warehouses—critical during times of congestion.
Implementing a new solution typically comes with overcoming some challenges, such as developing a customized container tracking logic or integrating with SAP’s Logistics Business Network, to name a few. How these challenges were overcome, and what the future road map looks like, will be addressed during this session amongst others.
