For sustainability reasons, more transport should be shifted from road to environmentally friendly modes of transport, particularly rail and inland waterway. Strategies and measures for sustainable freight transport will be presented. Current projects from Bavaria that contribute to this will also be discussed as examples.
The Max Bögl company, for example, is planning to build a landing stage in Bachhausen to avoid wind power components continuing to be transported across the whole of Germany using unpredictable heavy-duty road haulage. Instead, the parts will be transported to Bavaria by inland waterway shipping, picked in Bachhausen and brought to the construction sites just in time. This means that no storage space needs to be kept there and deforestation can be avoided.
For investments in the Lower Bavaria region, the general renovation of the Obertraubling-Passau line by DBInfraGo will be explained as an example.
