An efficient logistics infrastructure in Germany is of great importance, both for large and especially for small and medium-sized companies in the supply chains. Over the past 25 years, the urgently needed sidings and dispatching tracks, train formation facilities and other service facilities for rail freight transport have been dismantled in large numbers. In view of the unsatisfactory condition of the rail network, the federal government and Deutsche Bahn began the general renovation of the high-performance networks in mid-2024. The freight tracks alliance "Every meter counts", initiated by industry in cooperation with numerous industry associations and representatives in the railway sector, is approaching politicians to sustainably improve the competitiveness and innovative strength of rail freight transport in Germany and to draw attention to the infrastructure needs of freight transport in the railway network, especially for sidings and dispatching tracks including workshops. A greater shift in freight transport from road to rail will only be possible with the expansion and new construction of service facilities. Time is running out - there is an urgent need for more "parking spaces on the rails" for rail freight transport so that cities like Munich can continue to be attractive as an industrial location and at the same time be future-proof for the transport transition. At the specialist forum, experts will discuss why there is an urgent need for action from the perspective of the shipping industry and how the capacity bottlenecks in the area of sidings and dispatch tracks including workshops can be overcome.
