Modern laser scanning technologies are transforming forest inventory. Mobile scanners (PLS) and UAVs generate high-resolution 3D point clouds to model forest structures. Combining terrestrial sampling with ALS data and Bayesian inference enables precise predictions of growing stock, stem count, and tree height. These digital workflows are significantly more efficient than traditional methods, providing a stronger basis for management decisions. Additionally, LiDAR extends to automated log pile scaling, light modeling, and stem damage detection. Case studies, open data, and apps highlight this digital transformation.
