Lecture description

Bike lanes, shared fleets, and attractive public transportation networks are considered key drivers of the mobility transition—and significant progress has already been made in many places in recent years. Nevertheless, municipalities continue to face challenges: tight budgets, overburdened planning offices, and complex approval processes are delaying expansion. In this panel discussion, representatives from the start-up world, administration, politics, and innovation promotion will highlight how cities can remain capable of action even under difficult conditions and what successes are already visible. The focus will be on creative financing models, budget prioritization, temporary infrastructure (e.g., pop-up bike lanes), and the role of pilot projects. Real-life case studies, lessons learned, and controversial positions will provide material for a lively debate. The audience will gain practical insights into how, despite all the hurdles, the mobility transition is progressing step by step—and why there is reason to be optimistic about the coming years.
