Lecture description
Discussions on AI safety frequently focus on the opaque nature and lack of explainability of neural networks. Although these concerns are significant, they are not immediately relevant to functional safety system. Semiconductor companies invest considerable silicon area to lower the failure rate of AI accelerators, but it is the algorithms that are the main contributors to these failures. Given the proliferation of new standards and the extensive hype surrounding AI, what guarantees can be offered for safety relevant systems using AI?
