Datacenters focusing on training of ever more complex models for AI require large numbers of high-performance processors being connected by high speed links to one virtual machine. This trend is driving the number of processors per compute rack and the power consumption of these racks. Powering these racks becomes a challenging task as space for power supplies is limited. Doubling power levels from the 120 kW level being announced today for the next generation of xPUs, will require Power supply units in the range of 12 kW in a classic 1U height form factor - a factor 4 up in power versus the traditional 3 kW units being shipped today. By using a multi-level architecture and CoolSiC™ MOSFET 400 V Generation 2 we can improve power density and efficiency at the same time. The talk will introduce the concept and show first measurement results.
