In the global battery race, Europe risks to fall behind as China accelerates through vertical integration and the US scales through massive investment. This talk proposes a bold, focused strategy based on Europe’s true strengths: system-level thinking, deep engineering capability, and regulatory leadership. We outline three key moves: leveraging trust through safety and security standards, accelerating innovation via modular battery architectures, and positioning the battery management system as a strategic, independent layer in battery value chains. These moves can help Europe not only stay relevant but lead with purpose and speed.
