Prof. Dr. Thomas Wortmann

Professor Dr. Thomas Wortmann leitet die Abteilung Computing in der Architektur am Institut für computerbasiertes Entwerfen und Baufertigung (ICD/CA) an der Universität Stuttgart. Herr Wortmann hat einen Diplomingenieur in Architektur von der Universität Kassel, einen Master of Science in Design und Computation vom MIT und einen Ph.D. in Architektur und nachhaltigem Entwerfen von der Singapore University of Technology and Design. Vor seiner Berufung ans ICD lehrte er an der National University of Singapore und der Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou, China. Er erforscht (1) performance-informiertes Entwerfen, (2) Repräsentation und Generierung von Gebäudeendwürfen, (3) material-informiertes Entwerfen und Fertigen, und (4) Multi-Akteur Fertigung und Mensch-Roboter Kollaboration und leitet die Entwicklung von Opossum, einem auf maschinellem Lernen basierenden Optimierungstool, welches bereits über 19.000-mal heruntergeladen wurde. Professor Thomas Wortmann directs the Department of Computing in Architecture at the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD/CA), University of Stuttgart. He holds a Master of Architecture from University of Kassel, a Master of Science in Design and Computation from MIT, and a PhD in Architecture and Sustainable Design from Singapore University of Technology and Design. Before joining ICD, Thomas was a lecturer at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou, China. He researches the application of artificial intelligence to (1) performance-informed design, (2) building representation and generation, (3) material-informed design and fabrication, and (4) multi-actor fabrication and human-robot collaboration and leads the development of Opossum, a machine-learning based optimization tool that has been downloaded over 19.000 times.
