Biography

Dr Sathiskumar Anusuya Ponnusami is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the School of Engineering and Materials Science at Queen Mary University of London, United Kingdom. His research interests encompass multiscale and multiphysics mechanics of multifunctional aerospace composites with an emphasis on data-driven modelling and machine learning. He is an elected fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS) and the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA). He is an Associate Editor of the Mechanics of Materials journal (Elsevier) and Ceramics International (Elsevier) and a board member of the UK Association for Computational Mechanics (UKACM). Previously, he served as the Programme Director of Aerospace Engineering at City St George’s, University of London and conducted his postdoctoral research in the Solid Mechanics Group at the University of Oxford, UK within the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre, focusing on impact damage predictions in aerospace composites. He completed his PhD in Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft, Netherlands focusing on self-healing aerospace ceramic coatings. During his career, he was awarded the EPSRC Early Career Researcher Grant for International Collaboration, Royal Society’s Newton International Fellowship grant, Alan Turing Institute’s UK-Italy Trustworthy AI Exchange Researcher Award, ICSHM Young Scientist Award, Airbus-UNESCO Fly Your Ideas winner 2015 and NLF Dutch Aerospace Award 2015. His research is supported by grants from UKRI-EPSRC, Royal Society, British Council, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), and industrial consortiums. His research outputs include 42 journal articles, 40 international conferences, 20 invited talks, 7 book chapters and a patent.
