The future demand for raw materials, i.a. for decarbonisation purposes in the construction industry, requires new approaches for mineral processing of materials from (secondary) alternative resources to secure the materials supply. Examples for deposits are the use of autogenously burned tailings from coal mining as an alternative resource for binders, the processing of steel mill slag for the recovery of critical raw materials (e.g. P and V) as well as the processing of the slag's mineral components for the production of aggregates in cement and concrete products or the repurpose of material excavated during infrastructure projects like e.g. district heating pipeline construction works.
