Von 2009 bis 2014 berufsmäßiger Stadtrat als Referent für Arbeit und Wirtschaft. Seit 1. Mai 2014 Oberbürgermeister der Landeshauptstadt München. Zusätzlich hält OB Reiter die Leitung der Ausschüsse für Stadtplanung und Bauordnung, Arbeit und Wirtschaft, Personal und Organisation, des Finanzausschusses sowie die Leitung der Stadtgestaltungskommission. Er ist Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender der Stadtwerke München GmbH (SWM), der Münchner Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG), der Städtisches Klinikum München GmbH (StKM), Vorsitzender der Gremien des Münchner Verkehrsverbunds MVV, Vorsitzender des Verwaltungsrats der Stadtsparkasse. Darüber hinaus vertritt OB Reiter die Stadt im Aufsichtsrat der Flughafen München GmbH (FMG), der Messe München GmbH (MMG) und ist Mitglied des Mietervereins München, der Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO), der Gewerkschaft ver.di, im Kuratorium des Deutschen Museums, im Ifo-Institut München, der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr, ehrenamtliches Mitglied der Georg-von-Vollmar-Akademie e.V. // Graduated in 1981 with a degree in public administration (FH), 1981 to 2009 in the city treasury of the state capital, including as office manager and press spokesman, head of the treasury and tax office and deputy city treasurer.
