Biobased building materials are the key to a sustainable future in construction. This presentation clarifies what biobased, sustainable, healthy, and circular building materials entail, and explains the role of the EU taxonomy (ESG) in assessing renewable raw materials. The significance of certification systems is also discussed, along with the perspectives of investors, planners, traders, craftsmen, and waste managers. Practical examples, such as the INARASuites project in the Black Forest, provide insight into the practical application. A future outlook will explore what requirements building materials must meet in 50 years to be suitable for future generations.
