Lecture description

Paludiculture is the agricultural and forestry use of wet peatlands that preserves the peat body and even enables new peat growth. This practice is crucial for climate protection, as peatlands store more carbon worldwide than forests. Rewetting prevents the release of CO2, which significantly reduces emissions. The biomass from peatland plants is suitable for the production of innovative building products such as moisture-insensitive, mold-resistant and flame-retardant insulation boards. These materials not only offer ecological benefits, but are also revolutionizing the construction sector thanks to their versatility and sustainability. Paludiculture combines economic, ecological and social aspects and thus offers a forward-looking solution for sustainable development.
