The energy crisis draws unprecedented attention to the energy needs of glass production. What possibilities does the industry have to reduce gas consumption? And how recyclable is flat glass? The construction industry is the largest consumer of resources and energy in Germany. Too many valuable resources are still being used for new construction and hardly any "real" material cycles based on the "closed-loop recycling" model are used when buildings are demolished. On behalf of the Bundesverband Flachglas e.V., ift Rosenheim and the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC have determined what the state of the art is in flat glass recycling and what the current and potential uses for the recyclate look like.
