Fiber-based materials have become particularly established in areas where high performance and low weight are re-quired. In addition to carbon, fibers made from renewable raw materials such as cellulose and lignin are also increas-ingly being considered. They offer similar advantages and are moving into ever higher performance areas. Regarding use in the construction sector, this not only improves the load-bearing capacity and aesthetics, but also the ecological balance. In combination with other materials, high-perfor-mance materials are created. For example, carbon concrete combines the strength of carbon fibers with the compressive strength of concrete, which leads to a significant increase in the load-bearing capacity of building structures.
