Dr. Svenja Herbertz
Biography
Dr. Svenja Herbertz leads the Biomedical Nanosensors research group at Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems IMS in Duisburg, Germany. The group develops near-infrared (NIR) optical nanosensors and integrates them into lab-on-chip and microfluidic systems, cell culture formats and imaging setups for real-time, label-free cell analytics, bioprocess monitoring and in-vitro diagnostics. They conduct publicly funded and industry-driven R&D projects on molecular biomarker detection, enhancement of diagnostic assays and optical monitoring of cellular and neuronal processes for applications in diagnostics, biotechnology and medical technology. Dr. Herbertz studied Medical Physics at Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf and obtained a doctorate on electroforming effects in TiO₂-based microelectronic structures and their switching behavior.
