Dr. Kai Kretzschmar

Kai studied biology at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and earned his PhD in genetics from the University of Cambridge. During his postdoctoral research with Hans Clevers at the Hubrecht Institute in Utrecht, he developed organoid models of skin epidermis, immuno-oncology, and ma-laria infections. Since 2020, he has been a junior group leader at the Mildred Scheel Early Career Centre for Cancer Research Würzburg (MSNZ), where his research focuses on adult stem cells and their niches in digestive tract epithelia using mouse models, single-cell and spatial tran-scriptomics, and organoid technologies. He received an ERC Starting Grant in 2022 and several international fellowships and awards, and has served as an Early Career Editor for Stem Cell Re-ports since 2023
