Lecture description
Electrochemical detection (ECD) is among the most sensitive detection modes available for HPLC, enabling highly selective and sensitive analysis of electroactive compounds. In this contribution, the Antec Scientific DECADE™ Elite electrochemical detector is presented for use in (U)HPLC-ECD applications, including sensitive determination of neurotransmitters, antibiotics in accordance with EP and USP guidelines, and clinically relevant diagnostic samples. In addition, the coupling of electrochemistry with mass spectrometry (EC-MS) is discussed as a powerful tool for studying redox-driven transformations. Numerous applications will be highlighted, such as proteomics (e.g., reduction of disulfide bonds), hydrogen–deuterium exchange mass spectrometry (HDX-MS), metabolism studies, environmental degradation and persistence assessments, and drug stability testing. The on-line coupling of the Antec Scientific ROXY™ Exceed electrochemical reactor with MS enables rapid and controlled generation of oxidation and reduction products, supporting both mechanistic studies and the synthesis of relevant metabolites and degradation products.
