Biography

Prof. Dr. Stefan Kalkhof directs the Institute for Bioanalytics at Coburg University of Applied Sciences and serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Preclinical Development and Validation at the Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (IZI) in Leipzig. His expertise lies in bioanalytics and proteomics, emphasizing the identification and validation of protein biomarkers as well as the development of diagnostic assays for regenerative medicine and toxicological studies. Additionally, he has significantly contributed to the development, testing, and understanding of bioactive biomaterials for their applications in regenerative medicine, focusing on interactions at the molecular level. With a doctoral focus on protein interactions, he advanced novel analytical methods using mass spectrometry during prior leadership roles at the Department for Molecular Systems Biology at Helmholtz Centre UFZ. His interdisciplinary approach integrates molecular analytics, structural biology, and proteomics to support clinical applications and material sciences. His dual roles strengthen translational research by connecting academic bioanalytics with GLP-compliant preclinical validation at Fraunhofer IZI .
