Biography

Since 2012 Oliver J. Schmitz has been a full professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen and is the chair of the Institute of Applied Analytical Chemistry. In 2018 Oliver has founded, together with Agilent, the Teaching and Research Center for Separation (TRC) at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Prof. Schmitz´s main research area is separation science, with a particular focus on non-target analysis of complex samples, the development of ion sources, the use and optimization of multidimensional LC and GC, ion mobility-mass spectrometry and metabolomics. Prof. Schmitz has authored 149 peer-reviewed publications, 4 patents, and several books and book chapters, and has given 175 oral presentations at national and international conferences. He has supervised 48 doctoral theses and was awarded the scholar-in-training award of the American Association for Cancer Research in 2003, the Gerhard-Hesse Prize for chromatography in 2013 and the Andrzej Waksmundzki medal award in 2019.
