Biography

Dominik Kopczynski earned his PhD in computer science from TU Dortmund. He subsequently joined the Leibniz Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften – ISAS – e.V. in 2015, where he developed influential proteomics and lipidomics tools, including LipidCreator, STAMPS, and PeptideMapper, which have made a significant impact on the field. His contributions extended to the German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure, supporting essential bioinformatics services and high-performance computing resources for life sciences and biomedical research across Germany and Europe. Dr. Kopczynski is also a co-founder of the European Bioinformatics Community and serves on the steering committee of the International Lipidomics Society’s Applied Bioinformatics interest group, which works to advance the development of tools and workflows that facilitate lipidomics data exchange. Since 2021, he has been part of the Institute of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Vienna, first as a postdoctoral researcher and later as a senior scientist, focusing on the development of efficient algorithms and tools for computational lipidomics, such as Goslin, LipidSpace, or the minimal lipidomics reporting checklist. In addition to his research, he is committed to teaching and created a new first-semester bachelor course, Digitalization and Statistics for chemistry students, which has been highly well received. In October 2025, Dr. Kopczynski began his tenure-track position at the University of Vienna as Assistant Professor for Data Science in Mass Spectrometry-Based Omics. Leading his own research group, he aims to bridge the gap between rapidly advancing mass-spectrometry technologies and the need for specialized, efficient software solutions.
