Biography

Claudia Colini is Junior Professor in Archaeometry at the Institute for Archaeology and Cultural History of the Ancient Mediterranean, and Head of the Mobile Lab of the Cluster of Excellence 'Understanding Written Artefacts', Uni Hamburg, Germany. She has a background in archaeometry and book conservator and is specialised in Islamic manuscripts and their materials. Her current research projects focus on the coexistence of different writing supports, inks and colours in the early centuries of Islamic Egypt. In 2018 she completed her doctorate in Archaeometry at the CSMC, University of Hamburg, Germany, with a thesis entitled: “From recipes to material analysis: the Arabic tradition of black inks and paper coatings (9th to 20th century)”. She subsequently worked at the BAM (Federal Institute for Material Research and Testing) in Berlin.
