Biography

Trained in mass spectrometry coupled with chromatography for the ultra-trace analysis of environmental contaminants, I’m currently Director of the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory (MSLab) at the University of Liège. Following my PhD, I further specialized in multi-dimensional chromatography and metrology during my postdoctoral research at NIST (Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA). This experience laid the foundation for my expertise in environmental analytical chemistry. Upon returning from my postdoc in late 2009, I was appointed Associate Professor in analytical chemistry at the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Sciences, ULiège and, then Full Professor in 2019. My current research focuses on mass spectrometry and ion mobility-mass spectrometry (IM-MS) hyphenated with GC and LC, with a strong emphasis on non-targeted analysis for ultra-trace detection of environmental contaminants of emerging concern. Today, the MSLab includes around 50 researchers, with an average of 15–20 PhD students and 3–7 MSc students. Over the past five years, I have secured multiple major grants to equip the lab with additional state-of-the-art MS instruments, enabling research at the cutting edge of mass spectrometry.
