Biography

Valentin Göldner is a Junior Group Leader at the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science and a member of the Environment and Climate Research Hub at the University of Vienna. His research focuses on mass spectrometric methods to elucidate abiotic and biotic transformation processes of environmental pollutants. He uses controlled electrochemical reactions to simulate transformation pathways observed in environmental systems and develops data‑analysis workflows for identifying transformation products in mass spectrometry‑based suspect and non‑target datasets. Additionally, his interests include environmental metabolomics using mass spectrometry to investigate complex biochemical signatures in environmental systems. Valentin studied Food Chemistry and earned a doctorate in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Münster under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Uwe Karst. He has been a Junior Group Leader at the University of Vienna since 2024.
