Prof. Dr. Juliane Hollender
Biography
Juliane Hollender is a senior scientist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag) and an adjunct professor for environmental chemistry at the ETH Zürich in the Department Environmental Systems Science. After a PhD in environmental engineering from the Technical University of Berlin (1994), she worked at the RWTH Aachen in Germany before moving to Switzerland in 2005. Her research focuses on the fate of polar organic contaminants in the natural and engineered aquatic environment, using liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry as an important methodological tool. She is particularly interested in non-target screening to get a more comprehensive picture of environmental contamination as well as biological processes that link exposure and effects. Since 2013, she has been a member of the steering committee of the NORMAN network and an associated editor for the journal Environmental Science and Technology since 2023.
