Dr. Gerardro Álvarez-Rivera

Biography

Gerardo Álvarez is a researcher in the Na3onal Research Council of Spain (CSIC). He earned his Ph.D. Degree in Chemical Science and Technology from University of San3ago de Compostela (2015) and, since then, his research ac3vity has been further developed in worldclass research centers in Germany (KIT and BfG), Czech Republic (UCT-Prague), and United Kingdom (Queen’s University Belfast). His main research ac3vity is focused on bioac3ve natural products with nutraceu3cal or pharmacological poten3al, including the developement of innova3ve extrac3on and (bio)analy3cal methodologies to obtain and characterize bioac3ve compounds from food processing industry wastes and other natural sources (plants and algae). In par3cular, he has significantly contributed to the development of green pressurized liquids-based extrac3on procedures, HRMS-based metabolomic strategies and bioguided approaches to inves3gate the an3prolifera3ve and neuroprotec3ve poten3al of dietary phytochemicals. He is coauthor of more than 70 SCI publica3ons, including 10 book chapters, and his research has been disseminated through a hundred contribu3ons in different na3onal and interna3onal conferences, including several invited talks and various award-winning research works. He is a member of the editorial board of several SCI journals (i.e., Open Life Science, Fron3ers in Analy3cal Science, Fron3ers in Nutri3on), and he also ac3vely par3cipates in evalua3on commi^ees of different research agencies: FONDECYT (Perú), CAS (Czech Republic) and AEI (Spain).
