Biography
Bastian Ruehle, Head of Division 6.7 – Material Synthesis and Design, Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM)
Bastian studied chemistry at the University of Heidelberg, got his PhD at the University of Munich, and joined UCLA as a postdoctoral fellow before coming to the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, where he is now leading the Division 6.7 – Material Synthesis and Design. With his background in synthetic chemistry, physical chemistry, and materials science, he is interested in the synthesis, characterization, and application of nano and advanced materials in various fields of studies. He is particularly interested in porous materials and thin film coatings, and the host-guest interactions in these systems for capture, storage, catalysis, or triggered release applications. Recently, he developed a Materials Acceleration Platform for the synthesis, in line characterization, and machine-learning guided optimization of various nanomaterials. Bastian also co-coordinates the Nano and Advanced Materials Competence Center and the Materials Acceleration Platform Center at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM).
