Biography
Anja Kessler is Director of the Reference Institute for Bioanalytics (RfB), a German ISO/IEC 17043-accredited external quality assessment (EQA) provider within the Foundation for Pathobiochemistry and Molecular Diagnostics (SPMD). RfB runs proficiency testing and EQA schemes spanning the full spectrum of laboratory diagnostics and supports medical laboratories in meeting quality and accreditation requirements.
Previously, she headed the RfB calibration laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 15195, responsible for the characterization and certification of EQA materials. In this role she developed and applied reference measurement procedures, including isotope dilution mass spectrometry, to strengthen accuracy and comparability of results across laboratories.
Her professional focus is the implementation of metrological traceability in laboratory medicine as a cornerstone for reliable patient care and robust ISO 15189-compliant diagnostics.
Internationally, Anja Kessler serves on the Executive Committee of the Joint Committee for Traceability in Laboratory Medicine (JCTLM) and contributes to its Working Groups on Traceability, Education and Promotion. She also supports the IFCC as a consultant to the Committee on Traceability in Laboratory Medicine (C‑TLM) and of the Task Force on Global Laboratory Quality (TF‑GLQ). She represents DIN in ISO/TC 212/WG 2 and is member of the EQALM board.
