Lecture description

Metabolomics is a powerful tool to study health and disease, but generally relies on common large volume bio samples such plasma or serum. These samples need to be taken by trained personnel and requires a patient to travel to doctor or clinic. Remote- or home-sampling is suitable alternative, also for vulnerable populations such as infants or elderly. Such sampling is typically performed using blood microsamples (BμS) such as dried blood spots (DBS) and others.

The HUMAN project aims to integrate BμS with targeted and non-targeted metabolomics based on LC-MS and to develop and optimize their use. The multidisciplinary consortium consists of experts from wet- and dry-lab to improve the entire workflow from sample preparation to data analysis, which in turn can then be deployed in different studies. Here we present initial results from our project partners for the optimization of sample preparation, analysis, and data analysis strategies.
