Lecture description
Self-tolerance is a crucial characteristic of a healthy immune system. Complex regulatory mechanisms ensure the elimination and suppression of autoreactive components of the immune system. Some immunodeficiency disorders involve disruptions of these central and peripheral tolerance mechanisms. This can result in autoimmune phenomena, which may include the induction of antibodies against
ubiquitous or organ-specific autoantigens.
Autoantibodies represent potential serological biomarkers that can be used diagnostically. This presentation will provide an overview of the possibilities of autoimmune diagnostics in immunodeficiency syndromes.
